What Is A Goose Down Duvet

The winter months will soon be upon us and it’s time to start thinking about how to stay warm in the coming winter. There are the obligatory coats, mittens, sweaters, and flannel shirts to think about. However, there is also bedroom bedding to think about too. If you don’t already have it, you should consider investing in a goose down duvet which is guaranteed to give you a nice restful night of sleep in total comfort. Before setting out to buy a goose down duvet, it’s best to know 1) what is a duvet and, 2) where can you buy a duvet.
If you have to categorize bedding according to function, a duvet is the item that keeps you warm much the same way that a blanket does. A duvet is often identified as a comforter which is incorrect. You might say that a duvet, in its most accurate definition, falls somewhere between a quilt blanket and a comforter. It’s not as thick as a comforter and not as thin as a blanket. One reason it’s confused with a comforter is because it’s filled with natural fibers such as goose down, goose feathers, duck down, or duck feathers. They are also available in synthetic fibers; however, a synthetic fiber filled duvet is not recommended for use and will be discussed later.
It should be noted that the duvet has a long history which dates back to its original use in Europe about 300 years ago. This was the most common form of bedding used in the European countryside and continues to be widely used throughout much of Europe. Unlike blankets and quilts used in the United States, duvets made in Europe were made of natural fibers such as good down and feathers. In recent times, however, duvets have also been made with other natural fibers such as cotton, wool, and silk. As mentioned a moment ago, synthetic fibers such as polyester are also used.
With so many types of duvets available (according to the type of fill used), the least recommended one to purchase is the synthetic fiber filled one; the reason is simple. Natural fibers allow air to flow through and allows for greater comfort; but synthetic fiber does not. This is not to say that synthetic fiber filled duvets are rendered useless; however, you can become very hot throughout the night and may end up paying for another duvet filled with natural fibers.
While function is the prime reason to own a duvet, it can also decorate your room quite nicely and add quite a bit to the overall look of your home decor. A nice duvet can – and should – have a nice piece of bedding that almost always accompanies. This is known as the duvet cover. A good down duvet, which is not by any means cheap, should be cared for from the very beginning and be protected from wear and tear from regular use. A duvet cover is simply slipped over the duvet and encases it. When buying a duvet cover, however, you can be creative in what you pick. What you pick is what will decorate your bed and bedroom scheme overall.
When buying a good down duvet cover, please note that the type of fabric used in manufacturing a duvet cover is just as important as when you buy a duvet. Here again, you are better off buying a cover made of natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, or silk, and not something that is synthetic. It would defeat the purpose of buying a goose down duvet if you’re going to cover it with a polyester duvet cover. As with the fill used in a duvet, what’s used on the surface of the duvet is just as important. Natural fiber always allows for a smooth and comfortable air flow whether it is a piece of bedding or a garment you wear.
